The uTorrent Client for Windows 10 lets you share content quickly and easily.

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer or P2P protocol. It provides a means through which users on the Internet can discover each and download and upload content in a mostly automated manner. uTorrent is a client that provides a user interface to that BitTorrent protocol.

It is worth noting that BitTorrent and P2P has gotten somewhat of a bad rap since many people use it to share copyrighted material, such as movies and music. But BitTorrent is a powerful platform that uses the power of the crowd to distribute data. A developer that introduces a massive application update can use P2P to distribute those bits faster than would otherwise be possible.

There was a time when uTorrent was the new kid on the block in the torrent space, and it really shook things up by creating an application that was free and—at the time—second-to-none. uTorrent became somewhat of a standard. As its popularity peaked, the developer opted to cash in by offering pro licensing and relegating the free version to somewhat of a second-class citizen.

The basic version is still a powerful BitTorrent client. It remains one of the most customizable clients around. It works well out of the box, but if you understand P2P, you can real get in under the hood to optimize your experience as well as the experience of those who connect to you.

Perhaps the best feature uTorrent provides is the fine control over your bandwidth. Your can prioritize downloads and uploads and determine how many are running at a time. You can also schedule sharing and do that on a per-item basis or for all items. It is also possible how much you up and take down at any point so as not to cripple your Internet connection.

As mentioned, uTorrent was once a freeware client. Eventually it offered a paid-for pro client. You can still use that desktop for free, but now it is ad supported. We have our issues with a program like this being ad supported. But what makes matters worse is that the publisher targets its core audience—which is young males—with ads that are very often not in the least bit safe for work.
